FACE SHAPE-HEART

 HARMONIUS HEART

DEFINING CHARACTERISTIC:

A broader upper area of your face and you have a natural lift in your features. 💛

  • Widest at the top of face.
  • Narrow jaw and a small but defined, pointed chin.
  • You may have a widow’s peak (a hairline with a V-shape at the center of the hairline).
  • Diamond face shapes are similar, but more angular — lines are not as “soft,” and their forehead is less wide. Diamond face shapes can follow the guidelines for the heart face shape.

CELEBRITIES:

Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Hudson, Sophie Dahl, Carey Mulligan, Madonna, Julianne Hough, Claudia Schiffer, Chloe Moretz, Taylor Swift, Amanda Seyfried, Emma Watson, Sophia Loren, Ashley Greene, Kat Graham, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kourtney Kardashian, Victoria Beckham, Thandie Newton, Zooey Deschanel, Christina Ricci, Alyssa Milano, Elizabeth Hurley, Elizabeth Taylor, Naomi Campbell, Ashley Judd, Halle Berry, Zoe Saldana, Zendaya, Rashida Jones, Tyra Banks, Kerry Washington, Kendall Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens

                                    EARRINGS:

Cluster or other smallish earrings are great. Also drop earrings that are wider at the bottom than they are at the top. Earrings with curves soften the angular lines of your face. Dangle, teardrop, oval, and chandelier style earrings. You can pull off large circular disc earrings.

Avoid small post (button) and any long narrow earring styles. One of the techniques used to rebalance the heart-shaped face is hairstyles which cover the ears and cheekbones, so earrings may sometimes not be necessary to fill out this face shape.

Careful: Long drop earrings that fall lower than chin length. Earrings that are wider at the top than the bottom.

NECKLACES:

Heart-shaped faces need short necklaces with curves to reduce the appearance of length in the jawline and diminishes the sharp point of the chin.Triple-strand chokers or large beads at the base of the throat creates fullness at the neck and balances the wider area around the eyes and cheekbones. A bold pendant on a short necklace creates a visual stop directly under the chin, shortening the look of the face. If a longer necklace is desired, try the opera-length strand and circle it around the neck once or twice before letting the length hang. Circular neckwires, omega chains and short bib-style necklaces are another option for the heart-shaped/inverted triangle face.

Choker, collar, or short length necklaces work best for this facial type. Stacked necklaces, or multi-strand styles. You can handle necklaces that are bulkier to fill out your face — such as a statement bib necklace.

Careful: Long necklaces and long pendant necklaces creating a “V” down your chest.

NECKLINES:

Heart-shaped faces need strong horizontal clothing lines, making the face appear wider and more oval. This face shape is often accompanied by a variety of body styles, so choose necklines that work best with each individual's body style.

Square and round necklines look best with your narrow jawline. High or wide collars, crewnecks, boatnecks, off-the-shoulder necklines, turtlenecks, mock necks, roll-necks, and neckties are great on you.

Careful: V-necks emphasize your chin in a less flattering way.

Avoid: V-neck, collared shirt unless buttoned up, sweetheart neckline, Queen Anne neckline, scoop neckline, strapless, other plunging necklines

SUNGLASSES:

Mimic the shape of your face with your sunglasses — with the upturned design of the cat-eye styles! Also try oval and round styles, bottom heavy frames, aviators, and Wayfarers. You can pull off thin, rimless, and/or light-colored frames. Make sure the width of the frame is slightly wider than your forehead for balance.

Careful: Dark frames or too-heavy styles or decorative designs.

  HATS:

Hats work well on you in general. Medium brimmed hats, prominent crowns, and asymmetrical brims are flattering. Slanting the hat to one side will slim your face and draw attention to your eyes. Wear styles like fedoras, cloches, berets, boater hats, derby hats, homburgs, brimless hats, pompom beanies, beanies, trapper hats with the earflaps worn down. Best to wear hats that cover your forehead completely. Wear small accessories or adornments on the top or side of your head. The crown of the hat should never be narrower than your cheekbones.

Careful: Tight-fitting hats, hats with small brims, wide brimmed hats or hats that are too full.

EYEBROWS:

Groomed, tightly kept and not too thick (think Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson). Keep the brows rounded with a low-arch, as the curve of the brow enhances the heart-like look of the face. You can experiment though with a higher arch—it will make your face shape appear longer and more dramatic.

HAIRSTYLES:

Balance your pointed chin and draw attention to the eyes. Create the illusion of balance with curls and waves starting around the level of the cheekbones. Styles with fullness through the ends directed away from the face. Shoulder length hair tends to look best. Bangs can be worn short and choppy or longer and sliced into rather than in a heavy unbroken straight line. Wispy bangs with a layered medium-length haircut is great on you. You can choose to accentuate your tapered face shape by pulling your hair up into a high topknot!

Careful: With a true widow’s peak, avoid forcing an awkward middle part — instead part your hair slightly off center.

BRIDAL TIPS:

The heart-shaped/inverted triangle face needs a strong horizontal focus for the eye to follow. High necklines with gentle curves, accompanied by the shorter necklace lengths and teardrop earring styles, will balance the wide forehead and cheekbone area of the heart-shaped face. Keep in mind the size of the bride, her coloring and the simplicity (or ornateness) of her gown--a more ornate gown can support more ornate jewelry. Matching the patterns, designs, textures and qualities of her gown completes the presentation.

Veils that hang to the chin help widen the appearance of the jaw line. Also consider the wide-ribbon choker necklace for the heart-shaped face.
